‘Farms’ app helps in easy hiring, trade of agriculture machinery

The multilingual platform connects farm service providers with users

The mechanization and technology (MT) division of the Indian government’s department of agriculture, cooperation and farmers welfare (DACFW) has created a mobile application that facilitates hiring and sale/purchase of farm machinery.

The Farm Machinery Solutions (FARMS) app can be downloaded from Google Play Store by searching “FARMS” or “FARMS Farm Machinery Solutions”. It is supported on devices with Android version 4.0 and above.

Farms App is a multilingual mobile platform in which users are provided information in 12 languages, so far. They can choose their language from the options to use the app as per their convenience.

The app facilitates farmers of different states across India with the custom hiring services of farm machinery banks (FMBs)/custom hiring centres (CHCs) and hi-tech hubs established under the various schemes of the agriculture department.

The app helps societies, entrepreneurs and progressive farmers, willing to provide their agricultural machinery & equipment on rental basis, to increase their farm income besides making the optimum utilization of the available agricultural machinery available in the CHCs/FMBs/hi-tech machinery hubs. The app also provides a platform for sale and purchase of old agriculture machinery to farmers.

Farmers who have hired an implement/machinery from a CHC can give feedback about their experience. Rating is calculated on the basis of the feedback for that CHC. Similarly, the CHC can also give feedback to the farmers who hire its implements.

Small and marginal farmers benefit by using farm implements on competitive hiring rates and timely availability from CHC. Rates and the number machines available are also mentioned on the app to assist the users.

Farmers can find a CHC within distances of 5, 20, 50 and 200 kilometres from their village or town. For some selected implements, it is a pan-India search like for combine harvester, cotton picker, crane, sugarcane harvester and dozer. Users can view complete implements and CHC details by clicking on the implement name from the list.

The booking can be cancelled by the farmers provided there is more than a three-hour gap between booking cancellation time and time from which the implement is proposed to be hired.
