Rs 425 per quintal increase in support price of lentil, Rs 200 for rapeseed-mustard
The Indian government has announced a hike of Rs 150 per quintal in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat for the 2024-25 rabi marketing season (April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025). The Indian Cabinet approved the MSP, based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), for wheat and five other rabi (winter-sown) crops on Tuesday (October 18, 2023).
The MSP of wheat for the RMS 2024-25 is Rs 2,275 per quintal, up from Rs 2,125 per quintal in the 2023-24 rabi marketing season. The support price for wheat has been raised by about 7.05 % over last year. The MSP of barley has been increased by Rs 115 per quintal (about 6.62%).
The highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year has been recommended for pulses and oilseeds. The MSP of lentil (masur) has been raised by Rs 425 per quintal (about 7.08%) followed by Rs 200 per quintal (about 3.66%) for rapeseed-mustard and gram (chana) by Rs 105 per quintal (about 1.96%). In the case of kusum (safflower), there has been an increase of Rs 150 per quintal (about 2.65%), in comparison to last year.
