Rs 400 per quintal increase in support price of lentil, oilseeds
The Indian government has announced a hike of Rs 40 per quintal in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat for the 2022-23 rabi marketing season (April 1, 2022-March 31, 2023). The government’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) announced the MSP for wheat and five other rabi (winter-sown) crops on Wednesday (September 8, 2021).
The MSP of wheat for the RMS is Rs 2,015 per quintal, up from Rs 1,975 per quintal in the 2021-22 rabi marketing season. The support price for wheat has been raised by about 2% over last year. The MSP of barley has been increased by Rs 35 per quintal.
The highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year has been recommended for pulses and oilseeds. The MSP of lentil (masur), rapeseed and mustard has been raised by Rs 400 per quintal each followed by gram (chana) at Rs 130 per quintal. In the case of safflower (kusum), there has been an increase of Rs 114 per quintal, in comparison to last year.
