Rs 300 per quintal increase in support price of lentil, Rs 250 for rapeseed-mustard
The Indian government has announced a hike of Rs 160 per quintal in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat for the 2026-27 rabi marketing season (April 1, 2026-March 31, 2027). The Indian Cabinet approved the MSP, based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), for wheat and five other rabi (winter-sown) crops on
The MSP of wheat for RMS 2026-27 is Rs 2,585 per quintal, up from Rs 2,425 per quintal in the 2025-26 rabi marketing season. The support price for wheat has risen by about 6.59% over last year. The MSP of barley has been increased by Rs 170 per quintal (about 8.58%).
The highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year has been recommended for oilseeds and pulses. The MSP of kusum (safflower) has been raised by Rs 600 per quintal (about 10.1%) followed by Rs 250 per quintal for rapeseed-mustard (4.2%). The MSP of masur (lentil) has been raised by Rs 300 per quintal (about 4.47%) and gram (chana) by Rs 225 per quintal (about 3.98%).

Let’s look at the minimum support prices of crops in the 2026-27 Rabi marketing season and their estimated comprehensive production costs. According to the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) calculations, the projected all-in production cost of wheat for the 2026-27 rabi marketing season (RMS) is Rs 1,804 per quintal, and barley is Rs 1,862 per quintal.
As per the CACP calculations, the cost of production (COP) of crops includes A2 (actual paid-out cost), A2+FL (actual paid-out cost plus imputed value of family labour), and C2 [comprehensive cost including the rental value of own land {net of land revenue and interest on the value of own fixed capital assets (excluding land)}]. The commission projects the COP for each crop using state-wise actual cost estimates.
Among pulses, the projected comprehensive production cost of lentil and gram during the 2026-27 Rabi marketing season is Rs 4,875 per quintal and Rs 5,243 per quintal, respectively.
Among oilseeds, the projected comprehensive production cost of rapeseed-mustard and safflower during the last Rabi marketing season is Rs 4,458 per quintal and Rs 5,738 quintal, respectively.
