IMD WEATHER FORECAST ON FEBRUARY 26, 2024 (8 AM)
WEATHER SYSTEMS, FORECAST AND WARNINGS DURING THE NEXT FIVE DAYS
A fresh western disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level runs roughly along longitude 53°East to the north of latitude 30°North. It is very likely to cause isolated to scattered light rainfall/snowfall is highly likely over the western Himalayan region on February 26 & 27 with enhancement of activity over the region and with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on February 26.
An active western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from February 29 and adjoining plains from March 1-4 with peak intensity on March 2 & 3. High moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea to northwest India is also likely mainly from March 1 to 3, which is likely to cause heavy rainfall/snowfall over the western Himalayan region during the same period.
A trough in middle tropospheric westerlies roughly along longitude 94°East to the north of latitude 25°North. Under its influence:
- Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall/snowfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh during the next six days.
- Isolated light/moderate rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on February 28 & 29.
A trough runs from Vidarbha to north Kerala across Marathwada & Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels and a trough runs in middle tropospheric westerlies roughly along longitude 84°East to the north of latitude 25°North. Under the influence of these systems:
- Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorms & lightning is highly likely over Chhattisgarh, Marathwada & Vidarbha on February 26 & 27, Telangana on February 26 and Bihar on February 27 with gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph), Jharkhand on February 27 and with hailstorms over east Madhya Pradesh during February 26-28, west MP on February 27, Vidarbha on February 26 & 27 and Chhattisgarh on February 26.
Hot and humid weather is highly likely to prevail over Kerala and Tamil Nadu on February 26 and Rayalaseema on February 26-27.
