The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow provides training and guidance to farmers and entrepreneurs for commercial cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs).
As part of its Aroma Mission Phase-II, CIMAP will be organising the ‘Skill-cum-technology upgradation programme on cultivation and primary processing of economically important medicinal and aromatic plants’ from January 9 to 13, 2023. The institute is conducting the training at its headquarters in Lucknow.
Objectives of the course
To enhance practical knowledge on improved cultivation techniques, varieties of economically-important medicinal and aromatic crops like tulsi, ashwagandha, kalmegh, geranium, mint, lemongrass, palmarosa, vetiver, patchouli and chamomile, etc.
To demonstrate the improved distillation and primary processing technologies and various methods, nursery raising techniques, proper storage and its utilisation of medicinal and aromatic plants in various industries, etc.

- Medicinal and aromatic plants suitable for eastern, central and western parts of the country.
- Improved cultivation techniques of economically important medicinal and aromatic plants with their economics.
- Demonstration of nursery raising techniques of important medicinal and aromatic plants.
- Postharvest processing techniques and various methods of distillation of herbal plants.
- Crop rotation & intercropping.
- Integrated insect pest management in medicinal and aromatic plants.
- Proper storage of essential oils and medicinal herbs.
- Marketing aspects of essential oils and medicinal herbs.
- Certificate will be provided after successful completion of the training programme.
Who should participate?
This skill cum-technology up-gradation training programme will be useful for existing and new farmers, entrepreneurs, distillers, exporters/importers, perfumers and corporate houses for farming/contract farming, processing, value addition etc.
About accommodation/stay
Participants who wish to stay in CIMAP Fragrance Guest House during the training period must send a separate request email to guesthouse@cimap.res.in. The nominal rate will be charged separately by the guest house authority.
Course fee: Rs 5,000
The fee includes day-boarding (morning-tea, lunch and evening tea) and a training kit with technical course material. The fee is payable online in favour of the Director, CIMAP, Lucknow.
