Projected comprehensive cost of production for paddy for KMS 2026-27 is Rs 2,162 per quintal

Maize has the lowest C2 production cost at Rs 1,997 for KMS 2026-27

Farming Cosmos report: The comprehensive (C2) cost of production (CoP) for paddy for the kharif marketing season (KMS) 2026-27 is Rs 2,162 per quintal (1 quintal = 100 kg). The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) has projected the (CoP) of the kharif (summer-sown) crops of India for the KMS 2026-27.

The commission recommended the minimum support price (MSP) based on the CoP for the kharif crops, which the Indian government approved and announced on May 13, 2026.

For calculating the CoP, the CACP takes into consideration A2 (actual paid-out cost), A2+FL (actual paid-out cost plus imputed value of family labour) and C2 [comprehensive cost including rental value of own land [net of land revenue and interest on the value of own fixed capital assets (excluding land)] costs. The commission takes the state-wise actual cost estimates to project the CoP for each crop.

The commission has considered the cost of production during the triennium ending 2024-25 and the composite input price index (CIPI) to project the CoPs for the KMS 2026-27.

Against the projected C2 CoP of Rs 2,162 per quintal for paddy, the MSP for common and Grade A varieties of paddy is Rs 2,441 per quintal and Rs 2,461 per quintal, respectively. The C2 COP for corn (maize) is pegged at Rs 1,997 per quintal while its MSP is Rs 2,410 per quintal for the KMS 2026-27.

Among the coarse cereals, the projected cost of production is the lowest for bajra (pearl millet) at Rs 2,356 per quintal, followed by jowar (sorghum) and ragi (finger millet) at Rs 3,464 per quintal and Rs 4,308 per quintal, respectively. The MSP for bajra, jowar (hybrid), jowar (maldandi) and ragi is Rs 2,900 per quintal, Rs 4,023 per quintal, Rs 4,073 per quintal and Rs 5,205 per quintal respectively.

Among the kharif pulses, the projected C2 CoP for arhar or tur (pigeon pea), urad (black gram) and moong (green gram) is Rs 7,330 per quintal, Rs 6,955 per quintal and Rs 7,091 per quintal, respectively. The MSP for arhar/tur, urad and moong is Rs 8,450 per quintal, Rs 8,200 per quintal and Rs 8,780 per quintal, respectively.

In the kharif oilseeds, the CACP has calculated the projected C2 CoP for groundnut, sunflower seed, soybean, sesamum and nigerseed at Rs 6,255 per quintal, Rs 6,807 per quintal, Rs 4,879 per quintal, Rs 9,075 per quintal and Rs 8,274 per quintal, respectively. The MSP for groundnut, sunflower seed, soybean, sesamum and nigerseed is Rs 7,517 per quintal, Rs 8,343 per quintal, Rs 5,708 per quintal, Rs 10,346 per quintal and Rs 10,052 per quintal, respectively.

As per the CACP calculations, the projected C2 CoP for cotton for the KMS 2025-26 is Rs 7,083 per quintal. The MSP for medium staple and long staple varieties of cotton is Rs 8,267 per quintal and Rs 8,667 per quintal, respectively.
